HEY SHAUNA ART THERAPY
Creativity begins before we have art materials in our hands; it begins with personal and collective agency, with the decision(s) that we make to seek community, support, and space. It feels important to describe and recognize creativity as more than an art-related process, but also a way that we can live, imagine, understand, and create change in our lives.
NO EXPERIENCE WITH ART OR ART MATERIALS IS NEEDED.
Art therapy is the intentional use of art-making to create an opportunity to express and better understand our emotions and our needs, and to create and nurture balance and well-being, within a space that is facilitated by an art therapist. It is grounded in the belief that creative process and self-expression help us to find ways to cope, to manage stress, depression, anxiety, mental health issues and the myriad of other un-eases that trip us up in our daily lives. It gives us the space and opportunity to express ourselves, without judgement or expectation.
I offer a free 20 min consultation for those exploring their options, and feeling curious about art therapy …because it’s important to feel like both a therapy modality and therapist are a good fit.
Special Events, Team Building, Staff Events. Large or small – I can customize a creative arts-based workshop for your team/group, or you can choose from one of the themes that I’m currently offering.
The arts help us to maintain a balance between what science shows us (and that can often make us painfully aware of our flawed nature and chaotic environments) and what sustains us in our “survival of life’s journey” …art being something that “soothes us, supports us, and inspires us along the way”.
